Linzi Hanscomb, Nicholas Marcroft and their young family opened Snail’s Pace Cafe & Bike Hire in Wenfordbridge near Bodmin Moor in March 2014 - creating a magical and inspiring ‘off grid’ space in a delightful valley at Wenfordbridge.
Beginning with a love of ecology, permaculture, community development and good food they have created a unique space within and about a recycled shipping container. With a lot of love and hard work they continue to try and offer more an experience than solely a cafe.
Using locally sourced timber the café’s conservatory extension is light and airy, full of green growth and is a wonderful space to relax after a ride along the Camel Trail; there is plenty of outdoor seating and free parking in a quiet rural area. The café is uniquely solar powered and off the main electrical grid and offers a composting toilet too!
Bicycles available to hire from Snail’s Pace make this the ideal choice for breakfasting before attempting the full trail down to Padstow and back.
The menu changes regularly according to availability and season but there is always a healthy and hearty selection to choose from, including great breakfast choices, delicious lunches and salads with the majority being vegetarian and vegan options. Homemade and organic cakes and cream teas are at the very heart of the Snail’s Pace food experience – from their famous gluten free chocolate brownies to vegan lemon & berry loaf to Linzi’s beloved home baked scones.
The majority of ingredients used are sourced locally and as much as possible are organic with local suppliers ranging from Roskilly’s organic ice cream to Cornish roasted coffee beans from Cornico Coffee to Trewithen dairy milk, cream & cheese.
Snail’s Pace is a family friendly café – welcoming breastfeeding mothers, baby change facilities and a basket of toys, books and colouring for toddlers and young children.
Four legged companions are also very much welcomed!
